Salina offers a lot of different activities, culture and unique foods for everyone, a day trip to Salina is really too short to actually see a lot of the island. But I created three ideas on how to spend your one day on Salina. You can just simply book the ferry from where you are staying (e.g. Lipari or Milazzo) and return in the evening.

Family Day Trip to Salina: Fun, Sun, and Delights

If you’re visiting Salina with your family, there are plenty of activities and attractions that will keep everyone entertained. Spend some quality time relaxing, swimming, and enjoying the beautiful surroundings.

For lunch, head to a local trattoria in the village of Lingua. Try the famous Pane Cunzato, a traditional Sicilian sandwich made with local ingredients such as tomatoes, capers, anchovies, and olives. Alfredo restaurant in Lingua is highly recommended for its delicious Pane Cunzato.

In the afternoon, take a boat tour around the island. Explore the stunning coastline, see the famous beach of Pollara with their spectacular rock formations, and enjoy the refreshing sea breeze. End the day with a sweet treat “Granita” from any gelateria in Santa Marina Salina. Indulge in their delectable gelato made with locally sourced fruits and flavors.

Salina is a paradise for nature enthusiasts, with its lush landscapes and breathtaking views. Start your day with some culture and visit the beautiful Sanctuary of Madonna del Terzito in Valdichesa. Then take a hike from Valdiechesa to Monte Fossa delle Felci, the highest peak on the island. This challenging but rewarding hike offers panoramic views of the surrounding islands and sea.

After working up an appetite, head to the village of Lingua (which you can hike to from Monte Fossa fella Felci) and try the local specialty, Pane Cunzato followed by a Granita. Ristorante da Alfredo in Lingua is known for serving mouthwatering Granita and the best Pane Cunzato of the aeolian islands.

Cultural Day Trip to Salina: History, Art, and Culinary Delights

Immerse yourself in the local culture and history of Salina with a day trip focused on the island’s rich heritage. Start your day by visiting the Archaeological Museum in Lingua, where you can learn about the ancient civilizations that once inhabited the Aeolian Islands.

Also take a visit to the Santa Marina Salina. Explore the local craft shops and boutiques, where you can find unique souvenirs and handmade products representing Salina’s and Siciliys local artisans.

For lunch, head to the town of Malfa and savor the traditional dish of Pasta alla Norma. This Sicilian pasta dish features eggplant, tomato sauce, ricotta cheese, and basil. Trattoria “Bar Malvasia” in Malfa is a popular spot to enjoy this flavorful dish and other Sicilian specialties.

In the afternoon, explore the village of Pollara, take a trip down to the beach and visit the house known from the movie “Il Postino“.

To end your culuture day head to L’Oasi in Pollara where the movie “Il Postino” is played every day (with english subtitles) while you can enjoy the sunset with some Aperitivo and a Panino.
